Todo lo bueno siempre pasa rápido. Llegué hace una semana a Byron Bay con motivo de la reunión anual de AUssieYouTOO.com para los que escribo una sección semanal en su blog, el BEontheGO.

A mí siempre me cuesta despegar un poco. Aunque conocía a muchos de ellos por conversaciones telefónicas y correos electrónicos, no los había visto nunca. Primero observo y escucho y luego ya me lanzo a la piscina. Como espectadora, me ha gustado ver la sintonía que hay entre todos ellos, en el trabajo y fuera de él. He compartido jornadas laborales, pero también playa, barbacoa, surf y sobremesa.

Estos días, la casa de Marta Caparrós ha parecido una comuna en la que ha habido espacio para todos: el sentido de humor de Jessica, los bailes de Isa, la iniciativa de Juan y Javi, que nos cocinaron un súper menú el domingo, las preguntas de Leti, la asertividad de Marta y Carla, los conocimientos informáticos de Quim y Roser, la organización de Núria… Me dejo a muchos, lo sé. Hemos sido 20. Me ha faltado tiempo. No me quiero olvidar de Maidertxu, que no es de la empresa, pero vive en casa de Marta y es lo más.

Hoy ya nos vamos algunos. La idea era trabajar, pero sobre todo conocernos y reforzar los lazos entre el equipo, desperdigado por Australia, España e Italia.

Yo me voy con los objetivos cumplidos.

 

My AUssieYouTOO.com experience

Time flies when I enjoy something. I arrived in Byron Bay last week for the annual meeting with AUssieYouTOO.com, the company I write for a weekly section in their blog called BEontheGO.

Although I’m a social person, when I meet new people I need a little bit of time to observe, listen to them and interact with them. I know the AUssieYouTOO.com team members, but I hadn’t met them in person. As an observer, I’ve enjoyed how the members of the team are in tune with each other, in and out of work. We’ve worked a lot and also shared bbq, beach, surf and spare time.

The last week, Marta Caparrós’ house looked like a commune. I’ve enjoyed the sense of humor of Jessica, Isa dancing, Juan and Javi cooking for the team, Leti asking everything, Marta and Carla being assertive, the IT knowledge of Quim and Roser, Nuria being so self-organized… I will remember Maidertxu, who is not an AUssieYouTOO.com team member but lives in Marta’s place. She is so cool.

Today I fly back to Perth. The aim of this week has been working together and strengthen relations between the team members, all spread over Australia, Spain and Italy.

I say goodbye having met the objectives.

Byron Bay, mi visado de trabajo y vacaciones / Byron Bay, my Work and Holiday Visa (Esp / Eng)

Si tuviera menos de 30, podría ser de las que se viniera a Australia con el visado de Trabajo y Vacaciones, recientemente aprobado. Me tiraría un año en Australia, que repartiría en trabajar lo menos que pudiera para pasarme el resto viajando por la isla. Serían unas vacaciones distintas, en un lugar remoto y con una fecha de caducidad.

Tengo 35 y estoy fuera de concurso, pero esta semana voy a vivir un paréntesis con muchas similitudes a este visado.

Cada martes escribo para AUssieYouTOO.com la sección BEontheGO donde hablo de la vida –y mi vida- en este país. También me encargo de las newsletters. Esta empresa tiene trabajadores repartidos por Australia y otros países y esta semana los han invitado a todos a Byron Bay, donde está la sede, para hacer un encuentro laboral. Yo también estaba en la lista.

La semana se plantea entre jornadas laborales y tiempo de ocio: talleres, presentaciones, lluvia de ideas… El objetivo es trabajar, claro, pero también que nos conozcamos para conseguir que esa distancia que hay entre nosotros sea algo circunstancial.

Para mí, además, es la excusa para conocer Byron y compaginar trabajo y ocio. Voy a conocer a compañeros con los que siempre hablo en la distancia (espacial y temporal), voy a ver si me atrevo a surfear, veré amanecer desde el Faro y observaré qué se mueve por este pueblito, el punto más al este de Australia.

¡Qué guay mi visado!

Bryon Bay, my Work and Holiday Visa

If I was less than 30, I could apply for the Work and Holiday visa, recently approved for Spaniards. I would spend a whole year in Australia working as little as possible to pay my trips around the island. They would be a different holiday, in a far land and with an early expiration date.

I’m 35 and I’m not eligible for that visa anymore, but this week I’m going to experience a kind of Work and Holiday Visa. I write a weekly post for AUssieYouTOO.com under the section BEontheGO. I write about living in Australia (and my life in it). I write the newsletters as well. This company has employees all over Australia and other countries and this week they have organized a working meeting in Byron Bay, where the Head office is. I’ve been invited too.

A lot of workshops and leisure activities have been scheduled during the week. The objective is working and introduce the staff members to each other to shorten the distance and turning it into a meaningless detail.

This invitation is an excuse for me to visit Byron and combine work and leisure. I’m going to meet colleagues who I skype with, are a voice at the other end of the line or I communicate with via email. I’m going to try surf, see the sunrise from the Light House and observe people around this village, the easterly point of Australia.

Such a nice visa!
